Appendix-A of Publication 3536 PDF provides a list of ExSTARS product codes. We have elaborated on some of the product codes below.

Additive - Miscellaneous

PC090 classifies liquids that are typically small amounts of liquid blended with other products to improve quality and performance, or counteract unwelcome properties. For example, there are detergent, antioxidant stabilizing, and scavenger additives.

Alcohol

Ethanol mixtures can range from E00 – E99, (e.g., E75 means 75% ethanol 25% gasoline). Pure ethanol, (known as E100), is reported as E00. It should be noted that ethanol (E00) has various end uses, (e.g., a gasoline blend vs. a chemical component in perfume). However, the end use does not change the character for product code reporting purposes. All alcohol regardless of its end use, unless blended into a different product, is classified as alcohol.

Biodiesel mixture

Biodiesel mixture product codes are B06-99. 100% not blended biodiesel, otherwise known as B100, is classified as B00. B06-99 means “blended” biodiesel – for example, 99 gallons of biodiesel plus 1 gallon of diesel = B99.

Biodiesel mixture classification exceptions:

  • A mixture of B99.9, (99.9% biodiesel .1% diesel), is classified as B99.
  • Diesel fuel blends of B1 through B5 are classified as low sulfur diesel.

Gross and net gallons

Net gallons means liquid product measured in U.S. gallons corrected to a temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 degrees Celsius and to a pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch (psi). Net gallons are reported for every transaction and for reporting inventory. Gross gallons means the total product measured in U.S. gallons without temperature or barometric adjustments. For each non-bulk disbursement transaction, gross gallons must be reported in addition to net gallons.

Ultra low sulfur diesel

Ultra low sulfur diesel is treated as low sulfur diesel for ExSTARS reporting purposes. Select the low sulfur diesel product code, listed in Publication 3536, Appendix-A, that best matches the ultra low sulfur diesel without regard to sulfur content.

Undefined (other) product

PC 092 is used to classify any liquid product that does not meet the characteristics and definition of the products specifically listed. It may be necessary to test a product to determine its proper product code classification.
