Hello, I'm Chuck Rettig, Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Your safety and security are top priorities here at the IRS and with our Security Summit partners. Identity thieves and fraudsters are working overtime, trying to use COVID-19 to scam you. The IRS and our partners are giving you some new tools. One is called the Identity Protection PIN. It's a secret PIN known only to you and the IRS. It's voluntary. See if it's right for you at IRS.gov/IPPIN. All online tax providers also are offering multi-factor authentication for almost all customers, taxpayers and tax professionals. Multi-factor authentication protects your online accounts from cyberthieves. This is a very important safety feature. Please give it try. Let's make it harder for the criminals. Keep your computers and mobile phones secure. Use antivirus software. Use strong passwords. Look out for email scams, especially tax or COVID related. Password protect your home wi-fi. Stay safe shopping online, look for "https" in the web address. Stay safe; stay secure. Taxes-Security-Together. Thank you. See IRS.gov for details.
