Hi, I'm Yee, and I work for the IRS. If you have a videophone, mobile device or phone, there's a good chance that someday you will be called by a phone scammer. Watch out for phone scammers pretending to be the IRS. In most cases, first contact from the IRS will come in the form of an official notice by mail. We will never call and demand that you pay right away using a specific payment method, such as credit or pre-paid debit cards, gift cards or wire transfers. If a caller threatens to arrest, sue or deport you, that's not the IRS and is a clear sign the caller is trying to scam you. If you receive a suspicious IRS-related phone call, we have information about what to do at irs.gov/phishing.
