Our commitment to accessibility under Section 508
Our commitment to accessibility under Section 508
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is a federal law that requires all U.S. government agencies make information technology and data accessible to everyone.
By law, agencies must provide people with disabilities the same level of access as those without disabilities. For example, a person who uses a screen reader to read our website must get the same information as a person who reads the site visually.
Our digital accessibility statement
The website and applications of the IRS are designed to meet or exceed the standards of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. They also conform to Levels A and AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
For example, our digital services include:
- Images with alternative text
- Color contrast that’s sufficiently strong
- Headings that structure content
- Link text that’s descriptive
- Tables that display data with proper headings
