File electronically now, choose direct deposit and if you owe schedule payments due July 15

The federal income tax filing and payment due date is now July 15, 2020 for individuals filing tax year 2019 Form 1040, 1040-SR and tax year 2020 1040-ES estimated tax payments that are due between April 15 and July 15. You can use electronic options to file tax returns, get refunds and submit tax payments.

Need to file your tax return?

If you haven't filed yet, you should file electronically through a tax preparer, at home using tax software or Free File on IRS.gov, if possible.

Are you expecting a refund?

If you haven't filed your 2019 tax return, and you're expecting a refund, there's no reason to wait for the July 15 due date. File electronically now and get your direct deposit refund. Choosing direct deposit is more important than ever before. It allows you to receive your refund faster.

Do you owe federal taxes?

If you owe taxes, file now and schedule your payments on or before the July 15 due date. It's always good to pay as much as you can to minimize interest and penalties. The IRS offers a variety of electronic payment options to help you do just that.

Use the IRS2Go mobile app. You can download IRS2Go from Google Play, the Apple App Store or the Amazon App Store.

Want to view your tax information online?

You can monitor your federal taxes owed, payment history and tax information by setting up an account online at IRS.gov/account.

Do you pay estimated taxes?

Pay your tax year 2020 estimated taxes electronically by the due dates. You can schedule the two payments, normally due April 15 and June 15, by the July 15 due date, and the September 15, 2020 and January 15, 2021 payments, electronically. IRS Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, includes instructions to help taxpayers' figure and pay their estimated taxes.
