I served a little over four years of active duty in the U.S. Army as a Signal Officer. I started working with the IRS as an intern thanks to the Department of Defense’s Skillbridge program. From there, I was hired through one of the Special Hiring Authorities for Veterans, and that allowed me to get hired on very quickly so I had no job gap between my military service and the start of my IRS career. The transition from active-duty military to federal government felt natural for me as they are similar, so it can be a less scary option for some people. Take a look at IRS for more opportunities after your military service.
