Error
Form 1040 - An erroneous amount has been entered.
Solution
The most common cause is a ZERO has been placed in an area that should remain blank.
Form 1040, Line 33, has a (1) dropdown menu for Form 8689 and (2) an amount area associated with Form 8689. Leave these two areas blank unless you add Form 8689.
Never add unnecessary information (zeros, etc.) when the form does not require it. If the line or area does not apply to your tax situation, leave it blank. Adding unnecessary information leads to rejected returns.
Make your correction(s) and resubmit.
If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
