Business Rule F1040-344

Error

The Standard Deduction you entered on Form 1040, line 12, does not match your other entries.

Solution

Enter the correct Standard Deduction or ensure your Schedule A is correct and attached to your return.

Enter the Standard Deduction of $32,300 on Form 1040, line 12, when your return has this information:

  • Your Filing status is Married Filing Jointly and
  • You did not check the box "Someone can claim you as a dependent" and
  • You did not check the box "Someone can claim your spouse as a dependent" and
  • You and your spouse checked a total of two of these boxes (one each or two for either of you):
    • "You were born before January 2, 1960" or
    • "You are blind" and
  • Schedule A is not attached to your return

Forms and schedules must be complete before they can attach and transmit with your return. If Schedule A does not print, it is not complete.

Make the correction(s) and resubmit.

If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
