Business Rule F1040-034

Error

The federal income tax withheld, entered on Form 1040, lines 25a - 25d, does not match the information you entered from your withholding documents.

Solution

When you select and add income documents into the program, the withholding amounts you enter from your W-2(s), W-2G(s) and 1099-R(s) are transferred to Step 2; boxes A1, A2 and B1. If you have an amount on line 24 of Form 8959, that amount will transfer to Step 2, box C1.

The amounts you entered on Form 1040, lines 25a – 25d should match what is shown in Step 2.

  • Delete any duplicate income documents: W-2, W-2G and/or 1099-R.
  • Adjust the federal withholding amounts you entered in W-2 (box 2), W-2G (box 4) and/or 1099-R (box 4).
  • Adjust the federal withholding from ‘Other’ 1099 forms (SSA-1099, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, etc.) in Step 2 Section 2, box B2.

Make any needed adjustments to Form 1040, lines 25a – 25d.

Make the correction(s) and resubmit.

If you are making a payment, you may have to re-date Step 3, Payment Options.
