What is the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum?

The IRS Nationwide Tax Forum is the marquee IRS outreach event to the tax professional community. Each of the five IRS forums is a three-day event providing tax professionals with the latest information on federal and state tax issues presented by experts from the IRS and its partner organizations through a variety of training seminars and workshops.

In additional to seminars, the forums also feature a two-day exhibit hall, special programs, focus groups, a case resolution program and more.

Forum highlights

IRS Nationwide Tax Forum seminars provide continuing education (CE) credit for enrolled agents (EA), certified public accountants (CPA), Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) participants and California Tax Education Council (CTEC) participants. Attendees need to understand and comply with the appropriate licensing agency's CE requirements. Attendance for the full 50 minutes of a presentation is required to receive one CE credit. The seminar schedule allows for a maximum of 19 credits that can be earned at each forum location.

Please note that participation in the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum no longer qualifies for certified financial planner (CFP) credits.

Dozens of exhibitors display a wide selection of products and services that can help enhance your business operations. The NTF Expo Hall hours are Tuesday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. While you’re there, visit the IRS Zone, where you can learn more about the transformation and digitalization of the IRS and share your perspective with IRS representatives.

Bring your toughest unresolved IRS case to the Case Resolution Room. IRS representatives with specialized expertise meet one-on-one with tax professionals. This service is by appointment only. Enjoy good food and great company! Mix and mingle, reconnect with friends and colleagues, share best practices, or just relax and enjoy your time at our two networking events: the Welcome Reception on Tuesday and the Networking Reception on Wednesday.

The IRS Nationwide Tax Forum welcomes the participation of our association partners: the American Bar Association (ABA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC), the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), the National Society of Accountants (NSA), the National Society of Tax Professionals (NSTP) and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

New for 2024

Have a problem with your tax pro account or authenticating your identity? Do you need assistance with your PTIN or have questions about requirements for enrolled agents and Annual Filing Season Program participants? IRS representatives will be on-site and ready to help. Look for the new Digital Account Services Room and make your appointment on-site.

The IRS is hiring and in search of experienced tax professionals. If you’re looking for career opportunities at the IRS, the forum is hosting an exclusive recruiting event where recruiters will share information about job openings, salaries and benefits. Registered forum attendees will be sent a private registration link approximately two weeks before the start of each forum with instructions on how to set up an appointment.

In 2024, the IRS is increasing the number of Spanish-language seminars at the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum. Watch this space for additional opportunities for tax pros who communicate primarily in Spanish.

Looking for ways to grow or improve your tax business? Maximize your time at the forum by participating in this special Monday session. Tax forum association partners NAEA, NATP, NSA, NSTP and Padgett Business Services will present ideas on how you can attract and manage customers, increase your productivity and have a more satisfying work-life balance. English language session on Monday at 5 p.m. Spanish language session on Monday at 7 p.m.

Have you been victimized by a tax scam? Scammers are targeting the tax pro community. Join CERCA and the IRS for a panel discussion that will equip you to protect yourself and your practice. Wednesday at 12 p.m. Bring your lunch!

Join the National Taxpayer Advocate during the NTF Networking Reception to discuss emerging issues facing taxpayers and tax practitioners. The Advocate wants to hear from the tax professional community and welcomes your participation in addressing these concerns. Includes Q&A. Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

A new law affecting many small businesses – including many tax practices – went into effect in 2024 requiring companies to report ownership information to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). This bonus session, featuring representatives from FinCen and the IRS, will explain what you need to do to comply with the new reporting requirements. Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.

The IRS Nationwide Tax Forums Online (NTFO) provides courses based on taped seminars from previous IRS Nationwide Tax Forums. NTFO courses may be taken for either CE credit or audit. Note: Registration for NTFO is separate from registration for the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum.
