Payment tips

  • Online and phone payments are accepted. 
  • Frequency limits apply for card and cash payments. Check frequency limits. 
  • Federal tax deposits can’t be paid by card. Deposit employment taxes .
  • Payment vouchers aren’t required if you pay by card .
  • Card processing fees are tax deductible for businesses. No part of the fee goes to the IRS.
  • To cancel a payment, contact the card processor. 
  • If you over pay, we’ll issue a refund unless you owe a debt on your account.
  • Your card statement will list your payment as “United States Treasury Tax Payment” and your fee as “Tax Payment Convenience Fee” or something similar.
  • Federal tax lien releases can take up to 30 days after we receive full payment; liens may remain if you don’t pay in full.
  • If you pay when you e-file, different card fees apply.
