2024 National Tax Security Awareness Week - Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle

Schedule C

Students will be made aware of business deductions and credits. The event promotes tax planning for entrepreneurs, covering topics such as Schedule C, qualified business income (QBI) deduction, and net profit or loss. Learn proactive measures to pay no more than the correct amount of tax. We will also briefly cover topics such as starting a business, deducting expenses, recordkeeping, and payment processing.

Students will be made aware of online resources to manage business accounts. The event promotes tax planning for entrepreneurs, covering topics such as EFTPS, direct pay, and business tax account and more. Additionally, learn proactive measures to pay no more than the correct amount of tax.

Free tax preparation kickoff event – Earned Income Tax Credit 50 Awareness Day

This workshop will share valuable information to help moderate low-income taxpayers get the credits they deserve. Other topics that will be discussed include filing season 2025 – filing 2024 tax year returns, Identity Protection PIN Opt-In Program, and more. IRS will be providing publications and resources at an IRS table. Taxpayer advocate and Taxpayer Assistance center personnel are also expected to assist taxpayers on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration not required.

Small Business Administration (SBA): The SBA has small business loan and assistance programs as well as a network of resources and partnerships with other public and private organizations that offer special outreach efforts and initiatives to help small businesses. SBA's programs and services assist in almost every aspect of starting a business - from developing a business plan to obtaining financing and marketing products. Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE): The SCORE program is an organization sponsored by the SBA to match volunteer business-management consultants with present and prospective small business owners in need of expert advice. The volunteers provide free and confidential one-to-one consulting and offer low-cost pre-business workshops. More information and a schedule of workshops can be found at Seattle SCORE's website.

SCORE also has online resources and tools to help you make decisions on starting or growing your business. 

Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs): The SBA provides funding for a network of Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) throughout the country. The SBDCs provide no-cost business consulting, training, and research tailored to the local community and the needs of individual clients. The Washington Small Business Development Center is a university-based organization offering a wealth of free and low-cost information designed to educate and support small business owners and managers, inventors, and potential entrepreneurs. Washington State Department of Revenue (DOR):
The DOR offers free workshops and online workshops and tutorials to learn the basics of Washington State taxes. Tax reporting classifications, deductions, sales tax collection, and recordkeeping requirements are covered.
